Day 41 - Time For a New Car
Seriously, this is long overdue.
As part of my ongoing practice of telling the story I want to live I’m outfitting myself with my first new car of the year.
First? You say.
Yes, there are some dream whips I’ve always wanted and I could wait until I could write a single check and I will, trust me.
But I’ve been driving a trusty old hand me over of an 89 Volvo that seriously needs to become a KCRW membership and tax deduction.
So before the big reveal of what I’m picking up today, how bout I tell a little tale of how I got where I am. A little ways back my car got totaled and I ended up on crutches. While I was recovering from that I had to move some of my stuff out of storage to simplify things.
A buddy of mine who was helping me move my stuff is a car guy. Instead of looking at me and seeing someone on crutches who couldn’t drive, he looked across me and my southwest taco salad on a lunch break at Wendy’s after our third truckload and saw a guy who needed a car.
“I’m up for a few commercials,” he told me. “If I land one, I’ll hop onto Craig’s List and see if I can find you a good used car.”
I could tell from looking in his eyes that he was serious, but I had no real way of knowing just how serious.
That same night he called for directions to my place and came by with the keys, pink slip and car he’d just mentioned earlier.
A free car. Wow. I do manifest like that and he knows he can count in me like a brother. He always could. Last week he wanted some copy for the back of his upcoming album. No sweat.

- My new Volvo - c30

So, all that said. It’s time for a new car. Big time. And with $40k I can get one of those new Volvo wagon-ettes that are so freakin’ sexy.
I looked into the ride I’m interested in and (this is how much of a cave I’ve been in) I thought it would be one of the more expensive cars out there.
I was wrong. Completely.
Here’s what I found about my favorite new Volvo:
The Volvo c30 R-design starts at around $24 k. My Prosperity Game day is $41k.
So, w/ all the bells, whistles, taxes, insurance, registration, and a stack of CD’s I have enough to go on a road trip left over. Here is the MyNewVolvo_c30 Spec Sheet I put together. Click it to download.
I am geeking ferociously hard on this. In the mean time, who wants to test drive one of these with me. This week, no joke.
