Day 221 - What Thou Art
Giant Aha moment for me this week. No, not ’80’s glam-pop band, “Take On Me,” kind of a-ha, although, I know why you’d go there. Because, who wouldn’t?
No, this has to do with me noticing where I drop things out and then take advantage of them to compound on the great good that can come from reviewing my life. And perhaps it is because this game is still a game for me. Earning an additional (i.e. spending and additional) $1000 every day to the day before is moving from conceptual to practice and so, every once in awhile (i.e. daily) I find myself looking at the world and its opportunities newly.
Here’s what I’m noticing today. Back on the day after Thanksgiving Day I wrote a post about my son and his performing arts career. I was just looking back over that post and realizing I left a giant opportunity on the table.
So today, just before the world dives into various celebrations of appreciation, I’m going to take the opportunity to win in two ways. First, as a supporter of the arts, I’m going to fund the show of one of my favorite photographers. Second, as a consumer of the arts, I’m going to purchase some of the work at the same time.
I feel like a criminal including examples of his work in such small images, but my hope is that you’ll click on them and dig around his sites to see just how stunning an eye for beauty can be. The top image is off an estate in Mexico and one of my favorite Sunset photos. However, if our artist felt inclined to replace the print with one of his choice that he thought I might particularly like, I’d let him swap this image. The other two are absolute musts. The center one is my son from our first photo shoot ever. I just love it as an image. The lines and light and textures all feel flawless to me. And the bottom picture I couldn’t include as a thumbnail (very small) image on principal. This is the shot that convinced me this photographer has a keen eye for photographing the spirit inside people. Reflecting their essence in print. So well done.
And now, photographer Michael Hevesy, I’m putting $150,000 toward gallery rental, marketing, insurance, including a matching fund of $25,000 for underfunded gallery owners who want to add your work to their collections.
The balance, of $71,000 I’m applying to three full-size prints ranging from 6′x8′ to 8′x12′ to be hung in a future home. I’ve already selected the images and included them in this post. I can only imagine what it would feel like to be an artist, so committed to your work that another person would feel inspired to support it at that level. Probably pretty good.
I know that when people surprise me with any level of faith and support it comes with a degree of surprise. I also know that for me, it would be a personal victory to see his work in particular distributed into the hands of people who would appreciate it long term.
Knowing him as I do, each piece would be so incredibly printed, mounted and finished it would last centuries and never lose luster. What a privilege to be able to offer this kind of opportunity to someone. Now I’m really geeked to start making this kind of jing every day. WHOO! Let’s keep this expansion thing happening!
