Day 176 - The Woods
I feel like getting out of town for a couple days. Even a few weeks. It would be nice to pitch a tent and cook over a fire and hike every day and read under a tree. I’d like to be reminded of where I am by crickets and sunsets. Be there long enough to swap out the flashlight batteries before I consider coming back to town.

- run. trees. run.

I haven’t done that in a few years, but it sounds nice. Some of my favorite stories from my childhood took place miles from anywhere after weeks amid the trees. I was fortunate that my brothers and I liked to go backpacking. There’s really nothing like it.
So, in leiu of that, today I’m contributing $76,000 to the State of California, State Parks Department. This is a little different than the local contribution I made recently. This check comes with strings attached, and at least a three year drive on permit to any State Park any day of the year for me and my family. The strings on this check are that $5,000 are released monthly for operations only. That’s to pay Rangers and keep access roads maintained. The remaining amount stays in a fund as seed money to generate interest that can be applied to costs next year.
Money can grow trees.
The rest of today’s money goes toward the new home. Total now is $1.4 Million. I’ve been looking at houses. There are a lot of really ugly, really expensive houses out there. The ones I love - way more than I initially planned. So, I’m piling up the dollars until I have enough.
Thanks for playing.
