Day 227 - Emergency Response
In another life I’ve trained as a Wilderness First Responder. Actually, that was college, so, same life, different era. One of the greatest things about living in a society that puts the immediate health of its citizens first is that we’re reasonably capable of dealing with the sudden need for care.

- saving lives

In the near future we’ll want more people who can look after people in need of immediate care. One of the things that the Hurricane in New Orleans demonstrated years ago is that there is no such thing as too ready. So, today’s money is set aside as a go-to fund for public/private care providers, should the need arise. $50,000 to pay citizen-trainees so that we’re not piling people into training after the fact.
Many hours of training are required to stay alert and accurately informed in the fase of emergencies. No reason to wait until it is too late. The reason to make the money accessible to private interests if necessary is that often public organizations don’t have the vision to recognize needs in advance.
I admire and respect all of the first responders who help people in emergency situations. Accidents happen and safety is key. It’s a privilege to provide additional resources to those who serve in very immediate needs of others.
Way to go uniforms!
Day 226 - Jet Pack
Just in case this wasn’t under the tree yesterday, I’m picking up a personal jetpack. Have you ever dreamed of flying solo like this? I’ve had plenty of flying dreams and they are of many different types. On of my favorites as a kid was that I could take a sandwich bag and use it to pull myself up in the air, sort of like climbing the rungs of a ladder. I’d push myself through the air with the bag. Hard to describe, but fun to dream.
I remember when I saw a jet-pack in a James Bond movie and thought it would be awesome to have one of my own. As I looked around the Net this morning I found a video for Jet Pack International.
Watch it here:
Awesome. Right?!?
Each of these is full-fare ($226,000 apiece) and I can’t tell if there are kid’s models from looking at the site. I don’t know anyone at this company, I just found them because they seem fun. If anyone has ever used a Jet Pack, or has any video footage of using one, please share! I want to know more and try one out as soon as possible!
Day 225 - Family Fiesta
How would it be if each of us could rent the hall of our dreams, invite our favorite people to a private show and exchange gifts and appreciation in splendor and grandeur. Sometimes the Holidays feel like snug rooms with low fireplaces and snowed in weekends. Others a bit more spacious and lavish.
I’m imagining something unique today. Something like renting Disney Hall and having a performance by some of my favorite artists to share with not more than fifty of my closest family and friends. I’d ask John Renbourn, Brian Eno and Casino vs Japan to perform. And no, not holiday medleys.
But I would ask a traditional choir to carol in the anti-chamber. I think it would be interesting to dress up the inside of parts of the building in a traditional style and especially interesting to do a gift exchange and tree lighting in some of the private sections of the building.
I’m not sure if the space is available today, but, if it is, I’m sure they’d take a large check to open it for us.
Catering would be nice. Games and activities for the adults and kids. A stiltwalker or two. Maybe a trampoline. It would be fun to have an unusual party where Tim Burton and Queen Elizabeth would feel right at home. I’m sure it can be accomplished for today’s entire sum.
